Electric Himalaya

Nine different interiors, filmed with a slowly moving camera, appear in projected form on the walls of the exhibition space and slowly turn around the room.

Electric Himalaya refers to an electric air freshener that spreads the odor of the Himalaya mountain if you plug it in. How the smell affects people is to be seen in the video: everything seems delayed. The slow pace with which Pettersson touches the interiors delivers a beautiful contrast to the usual high pace of flashing (commercial) television. Also from the carefulness with which she films the interiors, it shows she handles another language. Electric Himalaya strikingly shows to what an extent we connect our identities with our interiors and how it in it’s turn delivers a portrait of us. Pettersson shows the absurdity and the beauty of this.

Electric Himalaya
